ELIZABETH STROUD PARK

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK

The Stuyvesant Heights Parents Association adopted this once neglected public park. Each year, along with members of the wider community, SHPA has cleaned, picked up trash, and planted bulbs to help spruce the park up during NYC Parks biannual It's My Park Day celebrations. In the spring of 2008, NCLD was commissioned to design a butterfly garden for an unutilized corner of the park. Working within the constraints of the Parks Department regulations, NCLD created a fun, colorful, space for children to skip through and commune with nature. We also commissioned Cuban artist, Carlos Mateu, to paint three murals that celebrate this park and the surrounding community it serves.
